Creativity

Hello, how is everyone today? On a scale of 1-10 how do you feel? I’m at about an 8 today (when I am writing this). So I thought it would be fun to talk about my creative thought processes, I find hearing or reading how others are creative interesting. I don’t know if you are the same but here it goes!

I have recently decided to start writing creatively again. I quite like the thought of writing a story that I personally want to read, its cool if nobody else reads it and its cool if someone does. I’ve been journalling almost every day, just getting my thoughts out onto paper, its honestly been so ridiculously theraputic.

A few blog posts ago, I mentioned how I made a spontaneous trip back home. On the train I wrote a lot, I got my thoughts out and also did a bit of a creative write to. It felt easy and I didn’t feel the pressure of when I first started writing with a goal in mind. I had a fair bit of insperation, considering my particular train route home is very pretty! I wrote about what I could see out of the window, people on the train and random thoughts that popped into my head.

Usually I find inspiration in a lot of random things. I have mentioned how I dance before on this blog, so I get inspiration from listening to songs. I get hooked on certain parts of songs, it could be the beat, it could be the melody. I start formulating choreography in my head and scribble ideas down, even down to drawings of little stick men with arrows! I get inspiration from how a song builds and how it makes me feel, sometimes I am inspired by a photograph or art piece I’ve seen in passing.

With photography, I get inspired by things that seem out of place? It could be a small bucket hanging from a branch, it could be a bendy tree branch or the way the light is filtering through clouds/leaves. I have a lot of photos, I never know what to do with them! I think I deffinately get that from my dad, he was the same and well the reason I enjoy photography. I remember when I was younger, how he would give me one of his cameras and we would take pictures together, in the park or somewhere different.

Now, with writing I don’t really know where that one came from? I think it has something to do with one of my old teachers. I was 8 or 9 and had this teacher, she had the nicest handwriting, she would read stories in the best way, including doing different accents for each of the characters and she was such an amazing story teller! Shockingly, I hated reading when I was younger, I found it really difficult. I would read the same line a billion times before realising I already read it, the letters would swim across the page and I couldn’t concentrate on the book in front of me, no matter how hard I tried.

At that time, I didn’t know it was dyslexia, however, this teacher made writing something really fun for me! She would put classical music on with a battered CD player that would be placed in the middle of the room, she would put a few scented candles on and just gave us the freedom to be creative. When I reached high school, I still really enjoyed creative writing and at 14 a writing competition came up. When I reached 14 I really started to enjoy and appreciate books, part of that I think was because of ebooks coming in. They didn’t seem as threatening as normal books and I could edit the font to one that didn’t move about so much!

By doing that writing competition, it really boosted my confidence and want to write. So for insperation for writing, it is probably the most random out of all my others. I could be walking around and see a name on a sign and begin to create a story with it. It might be a house, a photograph, a view, a song, a person I passed in the street wearing something bright or just a random leaf on the floor. I’m curious how you, if you are a writer, get your inspiration? Is it similar to me or massively different? Let me know, my DMs are always open!

I’m not really sure where this blog post is going so I’ll leave this here! See you soon, stay safe!
