Hello lovely people, how are you doing today? What has been the best thing of the week for you? It can be a good meal, nice weather or any small achievement. Let me know!
For my best thing from this week, was getting my weighted blanket…
The past few weeks have been pretty crazy for me, I feel like it’s just been one thing after the other and I am finally getting past all that, I feel like I can start to breathe again!
An update for you on the job front… I GOT THE JOB! When I got the email I was a bit surprised to be honest. I had to chase them up for a bit more information and when that did finally come through… I decided that the job was not for me.
I know what you must be thinking, that I am stupid for turning a job down when it has been months of searching and applying. After multiple conversations with two of the wisest people I know (My God Parents) I decided that it was the right decision.
Yes, I am back to square one but I am feeling a lot better knowing that I interview well and I also know, this is probably not the job God has put aside for me.
I think I am finally in a better place then what I have been for the past few weeks. Between job interviews, prep, emails, calls and everything else around job hunting – there has been more pressing matters.
Recently I lost a family member, it was the funeral on Thursday. I’ve only ever been to two funerals, my fathers and now my auntie’s. She was my dad’s sister. It didn’t necessarily help that the anniversary of one was around the second passing.
There has been a lot of loss in the past few months in my life, five people I knew in the space of a couple of months? It has been a lot, my mental health has struggled and now I feel like I can finally move forward?
At the start of this year I decided to go the gym – considering the past few months I haven’t yet started. I want to go the gym to gain a routine, its also very beneficial to your mental health. I figured that since I have nothing else to do and I am struggling with my mental health… why not try?
When I was 18 I danced pretty much every day from 9:15am till 5pm (sometimes 8pm ish if it was a dance show) granted, it wasn’t all that helpful being in that environment at all times (while also grieving and struggling mentally…)
I have been the gym here and there since I stopped dancing, but now? It feels right for me, where I am currently if that makes sense?
I’ve been using an app called Lectio365 were it does daily and nightly bible devotionals. They talk you through it and it helps you relax, focus on slowing your breathing and in the end, sends you straight to sleep.
I’ve had a few struggles with concentrating on what it is saying, but there is nothing new there I already struggle to concentrate! At first I wasn’t to sure if it was helping but I can see a small change? I can’t quite explain it yet, I haven’t figured it out.
On top of that, I’ve been using a sleep mist (it actually works) a few spritz of that on your pillow and you knock out. I guess a lot of my improvements/changes have been around my nightly routine.
It is amazing what good sleep can do. I have struggled a lot with overthinking at a night, my brain chooses the time I’m aiming to rest to bring up things I had all day to sort through.
A few sleep help tips from me goes as follows:
1. Use Lush sleepy time shower gel/moisturiser (trust me)
2. Make your room a relaxing space. Tidy bits up before you sleep, it makes your brain focus on something else, besides a tidy room helps a clutted mind. Put on a warm light on (a lamp would be good). Fairy lights.
3. Spray some night mist on your pillows.
4. Read a book, it could be a chapter or a couple pages. If not reading maybe colour something, it again makes your mind focus on something else.
5. NO PHONES. NO SCREENS. Music playing quietly is good but staring at a screen kind of defeats the object of switching your mind off.
6. Lectio365. You can let it play through. I like to loop the devotional a few times – especially when my brain is a bit to active.
7. Weighted blankets. I have never – in my life had such a deep restful sleep since I purchased one. I will say it wasn’t the cheapest of purchases but it was SO worth it. The weighted blankets calms anxiety, regulates blood flow, breathing and a load of other good stuff!
So, I’ll leave this here for today. I’m going to try my best to keep documenting my progress. I also want to clarify I am in no way shape or form talking about the gym to make you feel bad, I am not doing this for anyone but myself.
Thankyou for your support.
