Beauty In The Mundane

Mundane is a great word, it summarizes a lot of things. You can use it in multiple ways. You could use it to talk about the weather, the decoration of your home, history or just in your day to day life.

For me my life has been pretty mundane for the past year. This is my first blog post of 2025. I haven’t posted since October (sorry) & it is mostly because of how mundane things have been. Recently, I have been reflecting a lot, I was busy none stop for at least 5 years (minus that time we had that pandemic) but I have learnt that this past year was something I probably needed.

Rest, stillness & quiet.

At times, it was frustrating, it affected my mental health but I think the time away from doing things was almost, healing? I feel ready to work again & more motivated to get things done. I needed the time away from blogging hence the very long break from posting. I’ve been doing things I loved before again, starting with my photography. I felt no pressure to post things until I wanted to & it allowed me to get out of my house.

I started to read books again & enjoy the process of a story, no matter the plot twists. I started watching videos of things I didn’t know I would enjoy watching (no matter how boring it could be for others) & I didn’t care. I cleaned up when I felt like it & gave myself grace every-time I achieved something small (getting up out of bed for a start).

I started to get back into colouring books & enjoyed the creative process, without planning every colour to use. I took my time & if I wasn’t finished then I allowed myself to come back to it later on. I didn’t realise how much I held control over things, the past year taught me to relinquish control to the Lord & take each day as it comes.

In some ways I am already mourning this time of rest & stillness, even if I am still in this place a year later. This time is not yet up, it might be soon or it might not be & that is okay.

Find the beauty of mundane & don’t take it for granted…
