The Bridegroom

Love is a wonderful thing. It comes in lots of forms & is shown in different ways. As you all know it was Valentines day a couple weeks ago, but did you know the origin came from ancient Rome? It was about promoting marriage in young people.

Obviously, as time went on it changed a lot but remains widely celebrated. A couple days ago, I got to witness two of my friends get married. It was a lovely ceremony & I almost cried a couple of times. My friends are also Christians & if you don’t know, marriage in the Christian Faith is a covenant, a promise between you & God.

Marriage is also symbolic of Jesus & the church. In the bible it talks about Jesus being the bridegroom & the church being the bride. The church is the people of God. It is a truly beautiful thing to think about how Jesus sees us, as a groom sees his bride for the first time, with awe, wonder, joy & so much love.

In marriage the man & woman become of one flesh, of one body. It is a beautiful partnership, to grow alongside someone, to walk together, cry together, laugh together & be together with Jesus.

In the bible there are a lot of verses to do with marriage, one you typically hear a lot is from Ephesians 5:25-27, which says:

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.”

Here it exemplifies loving your partner just as Jesus loves his church, his people.

We all need to know that Jesus’ sacrifice is the epitome of love. He came as a baby, went through all the things humans experience, laughter, pain, sickness, grief, joy & love, to only go so much further with his love then any of us could possibly go.

Jesus took all the pain, all the grief, all the anger, all our mistakes, just so we could one day live without any pain, sadness, grief or anger. We can live with total peace, joy, love & rest & that is all because of Jesus. We are so undeserving of that but because of God’s grace & Jesus’ sacrifice, we are cleansed by the blood of Jesus. All you need to do is repent & accept what Jesus did for us, ask him into your heart, a relationship with your savior.

It sometimes feels unreal to know that someone went through immense pain & suffering just because of how loved you are, it’s hard to wrap your head around someone willingly dying for you.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one & only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life” – John 3:16

The bridegroom is coming soon & I can’t wait.
